Kevin Patel

A Livermore native, Kevin Patel discovered his passion for music at age 9 when he surprised his parents by signing up for violin class on his own. He quickly immersed himself in the local music scene, performing with school orchestras at Smith, Mendenhall, and Granada, as well as with the Tri-Valley Youth Orchestra and the Livermore-Amador Symphony Youth Orchestra. His dedication and musicality led to his appointment as concertmaster of the Granada High School Orchestra during his senior year. That same year, he composed and conducted two original orchestral works, both of which premiered at the school’s spring concert.

Kevin continued his musical journey at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition. While at CalArts, he composed original works and collaborated closely with performers to bring his compositions to life, deepening his appreciation for the collaborative nature of music-making—an approach that continues to shape his teaching philosophy today.

After college, Kevin moved to Los Angeles and began working in the video game industry as a dialogue coordinator, contributing to acclaimed titles such as Genshin ImpactThe Last of Us Part IIHorizon Forbidden West, and The Artful Escape. Alongside his work in game development, he remained active as a performer, playing chamber music and volunteering with the Pasadena City College Orchestra.

Now back in Livermore, Kevin performs with the Livermore-Amador Symphony and shares his passion for music through teaching. His goal is to inspire students by combining his rich background in performance, composition, and collaboration, helping them grow as confident and expressive musicians.

As a dedicated violin teacher, Kevin offers violin lessons and courses for students of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced player. His instruction focuses on developing essential skills and techniques, including proper bow hold, left hand positioning, finger placement, and intonation, while building a strong practice routine. Kevin helps students learn violin, play the violin, and make steady progress by teaching violin in a way that avoids bad habits and encourages consistent practice. His lessons cover a variety of styles, such as classical music and fiddle, and he also teaches other instruments like cello, guitar, piano, and trumpet. Kevin works with kids, beginners, and advanced players, valuing family and friends as part of a supportive learning environment. His approach includes listening, ear training, reading music, practicing scales and songs, and focusing on tone and musical expression. Having been taught by many teachers and experienced with many instruments, Kevin’s teaching philosophy is informed by a broad musical background. He hopes to inspire the next generation of violinists and musicians to start playing and enjoy their own musical journey.
