Aimee Shaw was born and raised in Northern California in a musical family. She fell in love with the piano and began taking lessons at the age of four. By eight, Aimee was singing with her parents and accompanying her family’s musical endeavors. At nine, she added woodwinds to her repertoire. She had the opportunity to perform at small venues and compete in church and school competitions throughout grade school and early high school. Aimee served as an accompanist for various performing groups, including local choirs, bands, and orchestras.
Under the tutelage of Juilliard-trained pianist Mary Sauer, Aimee competed for and won “Young Artist of the Year,” performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with her local symphony as a high school junior. She won again as a senior, this time as a flutist, performing Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 for two flutes and violin.
Throughout high school and college, Aimee worked as a church pianist and piano teacher. While attending Bethany University in Scotts Valley, CA, she studied piano under Junghee Spicer, honing her classical skills. Aimee is also a classically trained coloratura soprano, having studied under June Barber. She majored in music ministry, and after obtaining her BA in music, she married her husband Aaron. Aimee then pursued a teaching credential and an MA in education through Chapman University, continuing to teach privately.
Aimee has successfully combined her love of music and teaching, working in both public and private education. Over the last 20+ years, she has taught classroom music instruction, band, choir, and music appreciation in various classrooms and churches across California’s East Bay Area.
While group teaching is both exciting and rewarding, Aimee has never given up teaching one-on-one private lessons. The spark of recognition in a student’s eyes when they grasp a concept never fails to excite her, and her joy is contagious. Aimee’s enthusiasm for music, individualized instruction tailored to each student, and gently encouraging demeanor make her the highly sought-after, professional, and gifted teacher that she is.
