Piano Instructor

Soyoung Nam loved playing piano from a young age as her mom was a piano instructor. She started developing her skills in Sunhwa Art Middle/ High school, a conservatory in Korea, under Professor Jinwoo Jeong, and had her Bachelor’s degree in piano performance in prestigious Seoul National University under the guidance of professor Myounghak Lee.

She then came to the US for graduate studies in Peabody Conservatory under Professor Ellen Mack.  She continued her graduate studies at the University of Southern California under professor Bernaden Blaha.

With the blessing of three children, family matters saw her moving back to Korea where she taught students privately and played as an accompanist in her church.

Currently, she is in the last semester of master’s degree in San Jose State University under professor Gwendolyn Mok, a renowned expert in Ravel, having successfully performed her graduation recital of Bach, Ravel, and Chopin.

She also played for musicals in Palo Alto Children’s theater and has worked as an accompanist in New life Church in Fremont.

She has over 10 years of teaching experience, providing effective solutions for music students to pursue, and overcome technical difficulties and achieve advanced level of piano playing, to appreciate the beauty in music, and welcoming students to find the joy in playing piano.
